West Ham manager Avram Grant has revealed he is desperate for Scott Parker to play against Blackburn on Saturday.
The Hammers' skipper broke down in training this week with a recurrence of his Achilles injury.
He will now be given pain-killing injections in the hope of getting him ready for their crunch game in the battle to beat the drop.
Parker's performances for the club have seen him named Footballer of the Year, and Grant insists he will give his talisman every opportunity to prove his fitness.
"We are not optimistic today but we don't know yet," he said on Sky Sports News.
"He is five to 10 (per cent) today but we will see again tomorrow. If he can play, I want him to play, absolutely.
"If that is 100 per cent or 80 per cent, with Scotty you never know."
Grant revealed that he faced a similar situation earlier in the campaign before the Liverpool game, when his talismanic leader was struggling for fitness before leading them to a 3-1 win.
That is why he is determined not to rule out the England international just yet, adding: "Before the Liverpool game, there was a 10 per cent chance that he would be playing - not even 10 and he played.
"So we need to wait and see because if he is fit, I want him to play."
