Arsene Wenger hopes he can convince Nicklas Bendtner to stay at Arsenal when he holds crunch talks with the out-of-favour striker at the end of the season.
Denmark international Bendtner, who came through the ranks with the Gunners and began his senior career there in 2005, has struggled to pin down a regular spot in Wenger's first team this term.
The 23-year-old, who has played second fiddle to the likes of Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott, previously expressed his frustration at warming the bench, and has hinted at leaving Emirates Stadium in the summer.
But Wenger says he is optimistic of keeping Bendtner in North London when they sit down to discuss the striker's future.
"I will sit down with Nicklas at the end of the season to see how he feels," said Wenger.
"I completely agree that he did not get enough chances, it was a very difficult season for him.
Frustrated
"He must be frustrated and I am as well because I feel he was not involved enough.
"That is part of the competition as well, but we will see where we go from here at the end of the season. I hope he will stay."
Wenger is likely to review his squad over the summer and could find a place for several of the youngsters who have enjoyed productive spells on loan.
Among that party is England Under 21 midfielder Henri Lansbury, who helped Norwich secure promotion to the Premier League.
"Some of them will come back and be part of the squad," added Wenger. "Lansbury can be one of them, I like him."
