Kieran Trippier intends to return to Manchester City this summer and force his way into Roberto Mancini's plans.
The 20-year-old full-back was sent out on loan to Barnsley this season after finding himself well down the pecking order at Eastlands.
He has, however, enhanced his reputation considerably during his time with the Tykes, while some of City's big-money acquisitions have flattered to deceive.
Trippier has seen his progress recognised with a call-up to the England U21 squad and he has scooped City's Young Player of the Year award.
He hopes he will now be given an opportunity to stake a claim for a first-team place with the Blues and earn an extension to a contract which is set to expire at the end of next season.
"It's good for the club that all these big signings are coming in, but it's not going to stop me from trying to get in the first team," said Trippier.
"The City scouts have been watching me here and I think I've proved my point.
"I think my game has improved a hell of a lot at Barnsley and I've enjoyed every minute. If it wasn't for this loan spell, I don't think I'd be in the U21 squad.
"I will go back to City for pre-season and hopefully show the manager how good I am."
