Luke Young admits the Aston Villa squad has no idea who will be making transfer decisions this summer.
Villa are currently working under the guidance of assistant manager Gary McAllister, with boss Gerard Houllier having suffered a health scare.
After suffering chest pains in April, the Frenchman has been absent from the sidelines for the club's last three games.
He will not return to the dugout for their final two fixtures and confusion reins as to whether he will be back at all.
Even the Villa players have been kept in dark, with Young revealing that the situation has started to unsettle some of those sweating on their future.
"It is going to be another summer of no-one knowing what's really going on for a while," said the full-back.
"I would hope the manager, first and foremost, is healthy and he comes through the trouble he has been having with his heart.
"But I think also we need to know what we are doing, who is going to be taking the club forward, who is going to be making the decision on which players stay and go and who is going to be in charge for next season.
"Hopefully Gerard is fine and he can carry on but at the minute, let's be honest, no-one really knows what is going on."
The likes of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing have been linked with moves away from Villa this summer, while Nigel Reo-Coker and Brad Friedel are set to see their current contracts expire.
Young feels somebody needs to take charge of the situation before it becomes too late, with Villa currently left in limbo.
He added: "We've discussed it ourselves as players, wondering who is going to be making the decisions about who to keep and sell.
"No-one knows. Again."
