Taye Taiwo has been handed a one-match ban for chanting an anti-Paris St Germain song containing an expletive.
The Marseille full-back sang along with the club's supporters following their French Cup victory over Montpellier.
The Nigeria international later apologised, claiming he had been caught up in cup final glory.
The French Football Federation's ethics committee have taken a dim view of his actions, though, and feel he must be punished.
On top of the ban he will serve this season, he has been handed a two-match suspended ban and a 20,000 euro fine.
Taiwo will now be forced to sit out Marseille's final home game against Valenciennes on 21st May.
He will return for a trip to Caen on the final day, allowing him to bid farewell to the Marseille supporters before completing a summer switch to Italian giants AC Milan.
