And the future of the Chilean could be decided very soon, with reports in Italy claiming Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo flew to England to talk with City on Monday.
The Chilean has shone in Serie A this season with Udinese, and he is now one of the most in-demand players in Europe.
The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals this season, despite not being a striker, and the chase for him is hotting up.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge fan of Sanchez and has tracked him since he was a young teenager, and even before he moved to Italy in 2008.
But should Ferguson push ahead with a move for Aston Villa's Ashley Young, a deal for Sanchez is unlikely at this stage.
That allows Manchester City to take pole position in England, with Chelsea also previously linked.

Skysports.com understands that City officials have already made one trip to Italy to talk terms over a move and now Italian sources claim that Pozzo flew to England on Monday to meet them.
Pozzo insists that Sanchez's future will not be decided until the end of the season, but he already knows that he is almost powerless to keep the South American star.
"Should we qualify for the Champions League then it is our desire to maintain the potential that we already have," he said.
"In fact, we want to add to it.
"We've had an experience in the Champions League before and we now understand that you need to improve the squad with important players.
"We'll do all that we can to take on this adventure."
City are understood to be willing to match Udinese's £20million-plus asking price, which has seemingly prompted Pozzo to make the trip to England.
However, in a fresh twist the Italian media is reporting that Sanchez does not want to join City but would rather seal a switch to Inter Milan.
Barcelona have also been linked with a bid, but Italian sources insist it is now a straight fight between Inter and City.
One stumbling block for Inter, however, is that they are not willing to match City's financial offer, instead offering a number of players in exchange for Sanchez.
