Midfielder pens new two-year contract with Deepdale outfit

Barry Nicholson has committed his future to Preston North End after signing a new two-year contract. The experienced midfielder had been out of contract at Deepdale, but is now staying for the foreseeable future. Nicholson enjoyed giving his all in the failed attempt to keep the club in the Championship and is keen to help them bounce back into England's second tier at the first time of asking next season. The 32-year-old joined the club on a free transfer from Aberdeen three years ago and admits his first choice this summer was always to extend his Preston stay.

Delighted

"I'm delighted to get it all done," Nicholson told the club's official website. "The gaffer told me before the end of the season that he wanted to keep me and I told him I wanted to stay. "So once the season finished, it was just a case of sitting down and sorting the details out. "With the way the club stood by me during my injury, it was the right thing to stay and help them try and get back into the Championship. "I really enjoyed the last three or four months of last season, when I was back in the side, now we can hopefully hit the ground running for next season and bounce back."
