Eagles hopeful of landing defender

Crystal Palace assistant manager Lennie Lawrence has revealed they are close to agreeing a deal for defender Anthony Gardner. The 30-year-old centre-back joined Palace on loan from Hull last summer and the Eagles hope to bring him back on a permanent basis after his Tigers contract expired. "I've been speaking with his agent and Anthony is very keen to come back here," Lawrence told the Croydon Advertiser. "We want him back and we are hoping we can get it done in the next few days. I'm optimistic and I think we can do it." Gardner was a regular starter last season and helped Dougie Freedman's side escape relegation to League One.
