Swansea City captain Garry Monk admits it is 'bitterly disappointing' that striker Fabio Borini will not be at the Liberty Stadium next season.
Borini played a decisive role in helping the Swans secure promotion to the Premier League following his loan arrival from Chelsea, where he is out of contract.
However, the Italian has opted for a move to Serie A in the summer and is expected to sign a five-year contract with Parma.
Monk said: "Fabio is a great lad and talent and it was bitterly disappointing that we couldn't keep hold of him. He played a major part in our run-in and will go down in the history of the club.
"It was hard to leave him in London but I'd like to thank him for his contribution.
"I know he had sorted out the Parma deal before he knew what was going on. But I'm sure if he knew what we would achieve, it would have made him think twice."
Swans boss Brendan Rodgers is equally disappointed that the Italy Under-21 international will not be part of his plans in the top flight next season.
Rodgers said: "We'll keep our eye on Fabio. We can't get him for next year and it's a shame we can't take him on the next step of the journey. But maybe he can play for Swansea in the future.
"I sensed he was quiet in training one day so I had a chat with him. It had played on his mind because he'd been accepted so well.
"He had signed a pre-contract agreement with Parma in February, long before we came in for him.
"He is an honest and open kid. He's written a lovely letter which will come out to the supporters, players and the staff."
