Aberdeen boss Craig Brown has told Jamie Langfield it is up to him when he chooses to resume his career.
The Dons keeper suffered a seizure earlier this week and, while he was released from hospital on Thursday, it will be some time before he can contemplate returning to full training.
The 31-year-old's condition will be monitored for the next month, during which time he will undergo further tests at Glasgow's Southern General hospital.
"Jamie is going home, which is great news after such a worrying situation," Brown told the Daily Record.
"The medical people have said he can walk and jog for the next few weeks but contact activities are forbidden. He cannot dive in case he suffers an injury.
"I will sit down with Jamie and discuss his fitness but I will wait until he decides what his plans are for the new season.
"His health is the overriding priority and he won't be back in action until he is 100 per cent.
"But the fact he is allowed out of hospital after just a few days is a positive sign and everyone at the club is relieved."
