AC Milan's Thiago Silva has admitted to speaking with Barcelona about a possible switch to Camp Nou, but recognises that it is also up to the clubs to agree a deal.
Pep Guardiola is in the market for a new defender after finding himself with little cover at the back for long periods of last season.
The likes of Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets acquitted themselves well when called into duty, but are more comfortable as midfielders.
Thiago has now revealed that he has held talks with Barca, although it could be difficult for them to prise him away from Milan after recently signing a new long-term deal at the San Siro.
Speaking to the television programme Zico na area on TV Esporte Interactivo, the 26-year-old Brazil international said: "I have spoken with Barcelona, and thus I can speak about it as it is a 'legal' argument.
"Now they have to speak with the directors at Milan as I signed an extension until 2016 just three months ago."
Thiago is full of admiration for Barcelona's style of play, which is effective as well as pleasing on the eye.
He explained: "It's complicated to play against that team. They get you nervous.
"I had the opportunity to play against their reserves and I was really nervous. Their passing game is just so perfect."
