Bristol City have rejected an offer from a rival Championship club for striker Nicky Maynard.
An unnamed club has lodged a bid for the 24-year-old, who is rated as one of the best front men in the division and has been linked with Leicester City.
The former Crewe Alexandra forward has one year remaining on his current contract with the Robins.
But the club have no intention of cashing in on Maynard and have already offered him a new deal in a bid to secure his services beyond the end of the coming season.
No need to sell
"We're not in the business of selling our best players and we would certainly not sell to another Championship club," chairman Colin Sexstone told the club's
official website.
"Nicky is an important part of manager Keith Millen's plans and we do not need to sell him, nor do we wish to.
"Nicky has a year to run on his contract. We have already offered him a new contract and remain confident he will sign."
Maynard was signed from Crewe for a club-record fee of £2.25million in July 2008, signing a four-year deal at Ashton Gate.
He has since gone on to score 37 goals in 85 league starts for City, scoring six in 13 games last term after suffering a knee injury in pre-season.
