Hearts intend to hold further talks regarding a new contract for Lee Wallace to ward off interest from Rangers.
SPL champions Rangers saw a £1million bid for the full-back rejected earlier this week amid reports Hearts would demand three times that sum for Wallace.
The 23-year-old has just one season left on his contract at Tynecastle and Hearts boss Jim Jefferies has praised the defender's attitude during the ongoing speculation.
The Jambos are keen to hang on to Wallace and are planning discussions in a bid to persuade the Scotland international to stay at the club.
"Our view is that Lee Wallace is a very good player, a top player, and one of the top players in the country," director Sergejus Fedotovas told STV.
"He is very valuable. Our view is that his value is much higher than what Rangers value him at currently.
"We have had preliminary discussions some time ago over a new contract and we will be looking to speak to him over a new extended contract in the near future."
