The agent of Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini claims the Blues have identified Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi as a summer target.
City have been linked with a host of big names this summer, and have already drafted in Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic.
It is expected that they will turn their attention to attacking talent before the transfer window slams shut, especially as talismanic skipper Carlos Tevez has once again expressed a desire to leave.
Should the Argentine depart, he will leave a gaping hole in Mancini's forward line.
A move for Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero has been touted, while talk of a swoop for Lavezzi, another Argentine, has rumbled on for some time.
Mancini's agent claims City's interest in Lavezzi can be traced back to the end of last season, with discussions between Napoli and the Blues having been opened some months ago.
Giorgio De Giorgis told Radio CRC: "Manchester City's interest in Lavezzi could be a reality.
"(City) has been negotiating for the past few months with Napoli, regardless of Tevez's situation. City has spoken to Napoli about Pocho (Lavezzi).
"But 31million euros for Lavezzi, I think it's excessive.
"However, to find a player who is ready like Pocho is, it's not easy."
De Giorgis claims City may look to piece together a part-exchange deal for Lavezzi, with England international midfielder Gareth Barry used as a makeweight.
He added: "Manchester City could include a player in the deal, but I don't know what player could interest Napoli.
"The only one could be (Gareth) Barry, who is an England international and does not have a high salary."
Lavezzi is under contract with Napoli until June 2015 and has a release clause of 30million euros (£26.8million).
