Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman wants to see Morgan Gould on trial before committing to a deal for the South African defender.
Skysports.com revealed earlier in the week that Gould is set to train with Palace once he has secured a permit to travel to England.
Reports have claimed that Palace have already agreed a £500,000 fee with the centre-half's club SuperSport United following the Championship side's recent capture of Gould's compatriot Kagisho Digkacoi.
Freedman has confirmed his interest in Gould, but wants to run the rule over the 28-year-old at Palace's training camp in Exeter before pressing ahead with a deal.
"We do want to get him over here to have a proper look at him but it hasn't been rubber-stamped yet," Freedman told the Croydon Advertiser.
"I saw quite a bit of him when I was weighing up the move for KG and he looks as though he could be what we are looking for.
"He's an experienced international centre-half and he could be the answer. But we would have to take him on trial before we committed to anything and, as I say, it hasn't been 100 per cent confirmed that he's coming yet."
