Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of midfielder Lee Bowyer on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old has signed a one-year deal at Portman Road after his contract at Birmingham City expired.
The former Newcastle United and West Ham United player had been linked with a host of clubs, including another former side, Leeds United, but chose Ipswich after being impressed with Town boss Paul Jewell's ambitions for the club.
"I know all about the traditions of the club and the history after working with Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle," Bowyer told the club's official website.
"I know it's a family club but, having met with the manager, I know it's also an ambitious one and that's very important for me.
"Everything I heard from the manager was very positive. He wants to get Ipswich back in the Premier League and I'm looking forward to making that happen."
Jewell was just as pleased at his side's fifth capture of the summer, following the arrivals of Michael Chopra, Nathan Ellington, Ivar Ingimarsson and Aaron Cresswell.
"We're obviously delighted to have signed a player of Lee's quality," Jewell told the club's official website.
"Anyone who has seen Lee play over the years knows he is a winner and he will bring that winning mentality into our dressing room."
