Easton still at Shrimpers

Craig Easton has revealed he is still training with Southend despite rejecting a new contract at Roots Hall.

The midfielder, who captained the Shrimpers last season, is currently a free agent and has confirmed he turned down fresh terms due to the reduction in wages being a lot less than he was prepared to accept. Easton told the Southend Echo: "I am actually still training with the club at the moment and that is keeping me in good shape so there are certainly no hard feelings. "However, when my contract was up they offered me a new one which I turned down. I told them I was willing to take a bit less money but what they offered was a lot less. It didn't appear that there was any room for negotiating either. The offer was made and that was that really." Regarding his future, Easton added: "I am ringing around a few clubs and there are a few things going on in the background so I will wait and see. I am feeling very fit and ready to go so when someone comes in I am ready to start playing straightaway. It is an uncertain time but I am hopeful that something will come up."
