Hibs striker Akpo Sodje is in line to miss the start of the new season after picking up an injury.

Calderwood waiting to learn how long striker will be absent

Hibernian striker Akpo Sodje is in line to miss the start of the new season after picking up an injury in a pre-season friendly last week. Sodje, who scored six goals in 15 SPL games after joining Hibs in January, suffered the blow in the dying seconds of the game against Livingston The 31-year-old is currently on crutches as Hibs wait to learn the extent of the injury and manager Colin Calderwood admits that the prognosis is not looking good. It means Sodje will miss the opening game of the new season against Celtic on Sunday 24th July and he could also be sidelined for longer. "He's on crutches, he's had a scan but we have to wait," said Calderwood. "We cannot diagnose right away, we have to wait to let the swelling go down to allow the physios to have a look at him but it's certainly a couple of weeks at least for him." However, Calderwood could make a move for former Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan who featured against East Fife at the weekend as a trialist. He added: "We know pretty much everything there is about him but if you can get that opportunity, I think we should take it. What we have to do is sell the place to him."
