AC Milan chief Adriano Galliani has ruled the club out of the race to sign highly-rated playmaker Javier Pastore from Palermo.
The Argentina international, valued at €50m (£45m), is one of the most sought-after properties in this summer's transfer market, with a number of top clubs across Europe chasing his signature.
Premier League duo Manchester City and Chelsea are thought to be interested, while Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini revealed earlier this week there is also a rival Italian club among his suitors.
However, club administrator Galliani insists Milan are not the Serie A club that are targeting the 22-year-old's services.
He said: "Pastore? The Italian club which Zamparini refers to is not AC Milan."
Galliani has also reiterated that Real Madrid midfielder Kaka will not return to the San Siro this summer.
The Brazil international, contracted at the Bernabeu until June 2015, has endured a troubled spell in Madrid, with injuries and form hindering his career.
Ongoing speculation has linked the 29-year-old with a move back to Milan after departing the Rossoneri for Real in 2009.
But Galliani maintains a deal is unlikely, adding: "It is a very complex situation. He has remained in our hearts but it objectively remains a difficult deal."
