Skysports.com understands Southend United are considering a bid from Peterborough for Kane Ferdinand thought to be in the region of £300,000.
The 18-year-old midfielder impressed for Paul Sturrock's side last season after making his debut in January, notching up 22 appearances for the League Two club and scoring two goals.
His performances have attracted the attention of the Posh, who are preparing for life in the Championship after securing promotion from League One last term.
The Shrimpers are reportedly mulling over Peterborough's offer as they weigh up whether to part ways with the youngster.
Ferdinand, a youth product at Roots Hall, is the cousin of Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand and Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand.
The English-born Irish midfielder has represented the Republic of Ireland at both Under-18 and U-19 level.
