SPL champions Rangers have been dealt a blow on the eve of the new campaign after it emerged Kyle Lafferty needs an operation on a hernia problem.
The 23-year-old returned home early from the club's pre-season training camp in Germany last week in order to see a specialist about the complaint.
It has now been revealed that the Northern Ireland international needs to go under the knife to cure the injury and could miss up to a month of new season, which begins at home to Hearts on Saturday.
"Kyle is going for an operation for a hernia problem which will keep him out for three to four weeks," boss Ally McCoist told Rangers' official website.
"He will have the surgery next Tuesday down south and we hope everything goes well."
