West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu claims Fiorentina and Bayern Munich were chasing his signature before he signed a new deal at the Hawthorns.
Mulumbu, the club's player of the year, put pen to paper on a new three-year contract plus a 12-month option in the Baggies' favour earlier this week.
The 24-year-old DR Congo international has revealed he did not feel the time was right to leave Albion for another club.
After making rapid strides at the Midlands outfit since arriving from Paris St Germain for just £150,000 two years ago, Mulumbu believes his career development will be better served where he is.
He told West Brom's official website: "I heard about teams like Fiorentina and Bayern Munich being interested in me. But now is not the right time to go.
"I spoke to the board and they made me think about my situation and I think it is better for me to stay at West Brom.
"The club has shown me the desire in every respect to stay at the club.
"It means they want to build a big team and I'm glad to be involved. I know the gaffer (Roy Hodgson). I know the club, they play good football and I think we can do much better."
