Rangers boss Ally McCoist remains determined to hijack David Goodwillie's proposed move to Blackburn Rovers.
The Dundee United striker was expected to complete a move to Ewood Park on Monday, but Rangers have thrown a spanner in the works with a fourth offer.
United are believed to have rejected that bid, which fails to match the £2million up front plus £800,000 in add ons which has been accepted from the Premier League side.
However, whilst Goodwillie remains on United's books ahead of a possible medical at Ewood on Tuesday, Rangers will not give up on missing out.
McCoist told the Daily Record: "Until someone tells me he has signed for Blackburn, I will be hoping we can get him, there's no doubt.
"He's a player we would like and it's pretty straightforward that Blackburn are interested as well.
"I'm absolutely still hopeful. We are still in negotiations with (Chairman) Stephen Thompson up at Dundee United and, you know me, I'm forever optimistic.
"There's a little bit of work to be done and obviously Blackburn have put in a
bid that's been accepted by Dundee United, but we are still in negotiations."
