Birmingham City have completed the signing of former West Ham United defender Jonathan Spector on a free transfer.
Skysports.com revealed over the weekend that Blues were close to finalising a move for Spector, who had also been linked with Leeds United.
The versatile 25-year-old, who can also play in midfield, arrives at St Andrew's on a two-year deal, becoming boss Chris Hughton's seventh signing of this window.
The USA international spent five years with the Hammers before being released this summer and Hughton feels he will be a big asset.
"Jonathan is a player who has got experience of playing in the Premier League and as an international for America so he has good credentials," Hughton told the club's official website.
"He's a very good age and can play in a few positions. I think he will be a big asset for this club."
Hughton added: "There is still some work to do on the transfer front because there's a long season ahead and a lot of games to play and we need to have a squad in place that will be competitive in the npower Championship.
"Jonathan is another addition that helps us get closer to achieving exactly that."
