Ally McCoist has confirmed that Rangers have matched Blackburn's bid for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.
Reports emerged on Tuesday suggesting Scotland international Goodwillie is undergoing a medical at Ewood Park but the Gers have moved to hijack his proposed Premier League switch.
Blackburn have reportedly offered £2million up front for the 22-year-old, with £800,000 potential add-ons plus a sell-on clause, which has been accepted by United.
Asked if Rangers' latest bid is equal to that offered by the Lancashire club, McCoist said: "As far as I'm aware, yes.
"Unfortunately I can't give you a lot of information, other than we have put in a new bid to Dundee United.
"We just have to wait and see in the next couple of hours what happens.
"We've all made no secret of the fact that David is a player we would love to see at Rangers.
"We believe that we have put a bid in that's more than acceptable."
Scotland manager Craig Levein, who handed Goodwillie his United debut while in charge at Tannadice, believes the hitman is good enough to play in the English top-flight.
"It is significant that a couple of clubs at least have felt he is worth an awful lot of money and that's pleasing for me because he is another one of our players who is improving," said Levein.
"It's always a little bit of a gamble when you take a young player from one league to the other, and it is obviously a step up.
"But his attitude is such that I think he'll be capable of playing in the Premier League."
