Doncaster have been dealt another untimely injury blow with the news that Ryan Mason has damaged ankle ligaments.

Loan star suffers ankle injury in cup clash

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll experienced a bittersweet evening as his side cruised through to the second round of the Carling Cup but suffered another injury blow. Rovers comfortably saw off League One Tranmere 3-0 but lost Spurs loanee Ryan Mason to an ankle problem, just two days after Billy Sharp and James Hayter were stretchered off at Brighton. Mason, who scored the second goal, was the subject of a heavy challenge from Tranmere's John Welsh. O'Driscoll said: "He's damaged the ligaments in his ankle and had to leave the ground on crutches. "We'll have to assess him in a couple of days. He's a Tottenham player so he'll have to go back to Tottenham for them to have a look at him, but I think it's going to be weeks rather than days. "The game was dead and the boy didn't really have to tackle him. He's gone from behind, late. "Someone said we must have run over a black cat - I think we've run over a litter of them."
