Borussia Dortmund insist they will only sell star youngster Mario Gotze to a foreign team rather than a domestic rival.
Dortmund claimed the German title last season and the talented teenager has apparently popped up on the radar of Bayern Munich.
The team from the capital have completed multi-million euro deals for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and defender Jerome Boateng as they build a squad capable of a title challenge.
The 19-year-old Gotze's contract runs until 2014, and Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke believes it would be folly to sell their prized asset to a domestic rival.
"In all seriousness, Mario is not thinking about joining another team in Germany," he told Sport-Bild.
"Bayern can save themselves an offer; we would be totally stupid to let him go there.
"Mario has won the German title with us, he has been with us for eight years and his family lives in the city.
"So there are only three or four clubs in the he could possibly move to. And they are not located in Germany."
