Giovanni Trapattoni has left James McCarthy, Marc Wilson and Jon Walters out of the Republic of Ireland squad for next month's Euro 2012 qualifiers.
The Republic will face Slovakia on September 2nd at the Aviva Stadium and Russia four days later in Moscow.
These ties could play a key role in their chances of qualifying for the European Championships, but that has not stopped the legendary Italian coach from showing his disciplinarian streak.
Trapattoni was less than pleased with the trio after they failed to report for the Carling Nations Cup in May.
And his patience was again tested when the same trio withdrew from the squad that were due to face Croatia earlier this month.
A squad of 25 has now been named for the double-header from which they have been left out, but the former Juventus coach has left the door open to possible recalls.
"Picking the final 25 players for the squad has not been an easy task, and unfortunately some players have been left out," he said.
"We will continue to monitor their progress with their clubs and call them up if necessary."
Wigan, however, have insisted that McCarthy was being troubled by an ankle injury, hence why he iniatially failed to meet up with the squad.
Trapattoni, though, has taken the position that all injured players should report for duty if slecetd so that they can be assessed by the Republic's own medical staff.
