Wolves striker Sam Vokes hopes that his midweek performance against Northampton will earn him a regular place in the side this season.
The Wales international has been hampered by an Achilles injury sustained during pre-season but impressed in Tuesday night's 4-0 win in the Carling Cup.
The 21-year-old grabbed the final goal of the night with an emphatic finish late on and he is keen to play regular first-team football this season after a frustrating campaign last year.
"It was just great to be back out there and get a full 90 minutes under my belt, plus getting the goal late on," he told skysports.com.
"I picked up a knock on my Achilles during our first pre-season game against Crewe and that sidelined me for a good couple of weeks.
"That injury is behind me now, so hopefully I can kick on and play some games.
"I feel really good now though and I'm just looking forward to the weekend and hoping that my performance midweek earns me a place in the squad.
"A couple of the boys have gone out on loan and Stefan Maierhofer has left too, so hopefully I can use that to my advantage and take my chance when it comes around."
With Wolves' 100 per cent record still intact after two games, they visit a rejuvenated Aston Villa on Saturday and Vokes is determined to extend their superb start to the season.
"We've had a great start to the season with six points from two tough games and the strikers have done well by scoring the goals, so competition for places if fierce at the moment," said the the ex-Bournemouth striker.
"It is a big game, with it being a local derby again, but we've shown how strong we are in the past couple of games and hopefully we can come back with the right result."
