Newcastle new-boy Davide Santon is determined to prove his worth to manager Alan Pardew after penning a five-year deal on Tyneside.
The full-back arrived at St James' Park from Inter Milan for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday and is expected to fill the gap left by Jose Enrique following his departure to Liverpool.
Italian Santon, who is thought to have turned down interest from several top European clubs in favour of a Magpies move, cannot wait to get started with his new side.
"I want to pull on that black-and-white shirt as soon as possible," he told Chronicle Live.
"Alan Pardew has been fantastic with me. I was really impressed with him when I met him for the first time.
"I really like him because he wants to speak to players as men.
"Now I want to show him exactly what I can do on the pitch, it is a big desire for me to do well for this club."
Manager Pardew believes 20-year-old Santon will prove himself to be a quality addition to the Newcastle squad.
He said: "He is a pedigree player.
"He's a player that I knew about and somebody who I thought would be a great acquisition for this football club. I decided when it became accessible to us that we should not hesitate to go for him.
"He has been the Italian Under 21 captain and everybody thinks he is going to be a very good player."
