Young midfielder pens new five-year deal with North Londoners

Brazilian midfielder Sandro has signed a new five-year contract at Tottenham which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2016. The 22-year-old was linked with a move to Serie A with Roma and Barcelona this summer but has chosen to extend his deal in North London. The Brazil international, who joined Spurs from native club Internacional last March, made an instant impact for Harry Redknapp's side, notching up 26 appearances in all competitions on his debut season. A statement on Tottenham's official website said: "The club is delighted to announce that Sandro has signed a new five-year contract which runs until 2016." The midfielder is currently recovering from a knee operation that he underwent in July after picking up an injury whilst training with Brazil at the Copa America. Sandro, a regular for his country with seven caps to his name, is yet to feature for Spurs this season.
