Danny Welbeck is expected to return to training next week, while Antonio Valencia is back in Manchester United's squad for Saturday's game against Bolton Wanderers.
United striker Welbeck suffered a hamstring injury during last month's 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal and subsequently missed England's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales.
However, the 20-year-old has made good progress in his recovery during the international break and Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful Welbeck will be back in action fairly quickly.
"Danny is making good progress," said Ferguson.
"The injury is not as bad as we thought and he should be training next week."
Welbeck's place in the United side to face Bolton is likely to be taken by Javier Hernandez, with the Mexican hot shot in line for his first start of the season following a spell out with concussion.
Ferguson added: "There's no new problems after the internationals. Hernandez is fit. He played two lots of 45 minutes for Mexico and scored a goal.
"It's terrific for him to have the two halves, he's ready and has trained very well.
"The only concern was the rest time he needed after the concussion in the US. Otherwise he was fine."
Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia is also in contention to face Bolton following injury, while the fit-again Rio Ferdinand faces a battle to regain his place.
"Valencia's doing very, very well - he's in the squad for tomorrow," continued Ferguson.
"Rio Ferdinand's available but none of the back four deserve to be dropped so I don't anticipate many changes in the team."
