Stoke defender signs three-month loan deal with Ipswich

Ipswich have signed Stoke defender Danny Collins on a three-month loan deal. The 31-year-old Wales international will go straight into Town's squad for Saturday's trip to Blackpool. "We're obviously delighted to have been able to bring Danny here," boss Paul Jewell told Ipswich's official website. "The defence is an area we have been looking to strengthen and we've also had some injuries there as well, so Danny will add to the competition for places in that department.

Pace and experience

"He will give us more pace and Premier League experience. He knows this league as well having been promoted twice as champions with Sunderland. "There were other clubs interested in him, much closer to his home, so it shows his commitment and ambition to come here and play games." Collins was omitted from Stoke boss Tony Pulis' final Premier League and Europa League squad lists and the Potter boss was happy for him to move on. Pulis added: "Danny's opportunities here have been limited by the additions we have made to the squad in defensive positions, so it has been frustrating for him. "It is important he gets to play first-team football on a regular basis rather than sitting on the bench and this is a great chance for him to do that."
