Martinez full of praise for the performance of Di Santo

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez felt his side should have warranted at least a point after going down to a 3-1 defeat at Everton. The Latics took the lead at Goodison Park thanks to the impressive Franco Di Santo but the hosts hit back immediately through Phil Jagielka. And the hosts ran out eventual winners after late goals from substitutes Apostolos Vellios and Royston Drenthe.

Disappointed

He told Sky Sports: "We're disappointed in losing the game but not in the manner of our performance. For long, long spells we looked well in control. "Football is about taking chances and making sure that you don't concede goals. "But today, apart from not being able to defend one set play and not being able to stop a cross in the second half, I felt that we stopped Everton really well and we were the team that looked like a real threat. "So the performance is exactly what we wanted. It's just those little tweaks that allows you to get the rewards in the scoreline." Martinez was also quick to praise the performance of Di Santo, who was on target for his third goal of the season. He added: "I though Franco worked really well for the team throughout the whole game. He's only a young man, but potentially, he has all the attributes to be a top centre forward."
