Scott Parker has revealed he thrives on having to fight for a place in the team and is enjoying the challenge of trying to establish himself at Tottenham. Parker made the move to White Hart Lane from West Ham on transfer deadline day and has made an impressive start to life with his new club. However, he recognises that he cannot let his standards slip if he is to stay in the side as there is plenty of competition for central midfield berths. Sandro has recovered from a knee injury and played alongside Parker in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Wigan, a combination that earned praise from manager Harry Redknapp. "I knew when I signed for Spurs that it would be difficult and it is. I will have to work hard and prove myself to stay in the team," Parker said in the Daily Star Sunday.

Target

"You always know when you come to a big club that there will be real competition for places and I think that's healthy. "But I'm up for the challenge and it can only be good for the squad to have such good competition. We're all pushing each other." Parker is desperate to maintain the form which has helped him break into the England team over the past couple of seasons. He added: "Things have gone really well for me over the last few years. My main target is to keep fit, try to stay in the side and help as much as I can."
