Kolo Toure believes Manchester City must learn from their 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Mario Gomez notched a first-half brace as the German outfit opened up a five-points gap on Roberto Mancini's side in UEFA Champions League Group A .
And Toure believed the English side fell to defeat as they should have defended better.
He told Sky Sports: "I think in the Champions League you need to be able to defend from the start of the game to the end and that's why I think we lost tonight, we didn't defend as well as we have been doing for the last few days."
Asked if he thought City had been too attack-minded, he replied: "No, not really because I think City have some great players going forward and I think the only thing we just need to get the balance by defending well and attacking together.
"I think we have not been able to do that very well tonight and obviously the manager will resolve that differently.
"(The manager at half-time) told us to play harder and defend as a team and I think that's what we tried in the second-half but Bayern are a very experienced team, they have been in the Champions League for a really long time and I think all we can do tonight is just learn from this game."
