Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton admits that their pursuit of Chelsea youngster Conor Clifford has been put on hold.
The Glovers attempted to bring the 19-year-old in on loan before the transfer window closed last month but have since landed Norwich's Oli Johnson, who joined on a three-month loan deal earlier this week.
Skiverton told
skysports.com that he would be keen to bring the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international to Huish Park at a later date, but that a move was currently not on the cards.
"It's as dead as a nail in a coffin now," he said.
"We did try to bring him in before the permanent transfer window closed, but the lad wanted to look at other clubs.
"He is a very good player that would have done a good job for Yeovil, but he's at a difficult stage of his career.
Cautious
"Conor had a fantastic loan spell at Plymouth before one that didn't go so well at Notts County, so I can understand his reasons for being cautious about going out on loan again.
"He is definitely a player that I would look to go back in for down the line, but for us at the moment it's probably not the right time."
Young Watford striker Gavin Massey has impressed since joining the Glovers on loan earlier this month and Skiverton is excited by the 18-year-old's progress.
"He has done well for us so far and has got great pace that likes to get on the wrong side of the defender," he added.
"He could play a massive part for us whilst he is here, especially with the amount of injuries that we have had.
"He is a good addition and I've had my scouts watching him for a while now, so I know that he has the attributes to do well for Yeovil Town this season."
