Shaun Maloney has declared himself happy at Wigan after joining from Celtic over the summer, but now hopes to push for a regular place in the side.
The Scotland international sealed a move to the DW Stadium on deadline day and has so far had to be patient as he waits for starting opportunities.
Maloney knew that might be the case, especially as he was short of fitness when he arrived, but he is loving life at his new club and now wants to play more of a prominent role.
"I'm thoroughly enjoying it at the club and I am totally settled. I'm training hard and just want to do my best for the club," he told Wigan's official website.
"My fitness was lacking a little bit when I first came here and I didn't really get a great pre-season, but I'm catching up quickly and I just want to push for a place in the line-up as I'm desperate to do my bit for the club."
Wigan suffered a fourth straight Premier League defeat on Saturday as they went down 2-0 at Aston Villa to slide into the relegation zone.
Maloney is determined to help the Latics pull clear of trouble and saw signs of encouragement in the performance against Villa.
"I think we've got some really talented players in the side that played really well in patches against Villa," said Maloney, who concedes that the upcoming international break is perhaps not ideal as many of Wigan's players are away.
"Many of the squad won't be back until next Tuesday or Wednesday, but I think the manager and the coaching staff will now pore over it ready for when they're all back in training."
