Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard wants his team-mates to turn their Liverpool defeat into a positive ahead of a tough run of games.
The Toffees slipped to a 2-0 reverse to their Merseyside rivals after Jack Rodwell was shown a controversial early red card for his tackle on Luis Suarez.
Young midfielder Rodwell has already seen his dismissal rescinded, however, that was of little comfort for Everton who failed to pick up any points.
Things do not get any easier for manager David Moyes with Chelsea and Manchester United on the club's fixture list this month.
Howard is not dwelling on what might have been against Liverpool, stating Everton have the team spirit to help them climb the Premier League table.
Circumstances
"We have to think about picking ourselves up and asking, 'Can we get back up the ladder with the run of games we have?'" stated Howard.
"But because we've dropped the points in the derby, it's kind of hard to take, we have to go away and lick our wounds - which is tough under the circumstances of that decision to dismiss Jack.
"But we have to ensure our spirit will see us through this. We have been in great spirits, training has been really good - positive and spirited - so we need to feed on that.
"We need to keep it up, because we are in a really tough stretch of games. But we have been prepared for that, and we have to use that spirit to keep the performances high.
"If we can keep the players on the field, we should be up there!"
