Wigan midfielder desperate to beat local rivals Bolton on Saturday

Wigan midfielder Ben Watson admits it is imperative that the club ends its losing streak against fellow strugglers Bolton this weekend. The Latics are looking to avoid their sixth straight defeat in all competitions and move out of the Premier League's relegation zone. Bolton's league form is even worse as the Trotters have failed to pick up any points since their opening day win at Queens Park Rangers. Even at this stage of the season, the local derby between the two clubs could be one of the most significant for years. Only seven and a half miles separate the rivals and Watson, who has not missed a game this term, believes his side can respond from the 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa last time out.

Positives

He told Wigan Today: "I thought we controlled the Villa game at times, but they scored more goals than we did at the end of the day. "But we've got to move on now and try to take the positives into the Bolton game this weekend. "Maybe the international break gives us a bit of time to reflect on the last few weeks, and recharge our batteries for the next block of fixtures. "It's a massive, massive game and we need to get a win under our belts. "That's five defeats on the spin now and we need to try to sort that out."
