Sawyer happy to bide his time

Fit-again Southend midfielder Lee Sawyer is prepared to wait for his return to first-team action.

After six weeks on the sidelines with a thigh strain, the 22-year-old completed 64 minutes for the Shrimpers' reserves in a 3-1 victory over Stevenage on Tuesday. And the former Chelsea man was delighted to be back in action, telling the Echo: "First of all it was just great to be back out there again because it's been so frustrating not being able to play. "I felt quite fit and I do feel like I'm now ready to come back in to the first team. "But the team has won their last six games and we already have a very strong bench, so I know I will probably have to wait for my chance. "I'll have to see what the manager decides but I'll keep working hard and then try and make the most of any opportunity I do get."
