Manchester City midfielder feels his side need to win on Tuesday

Manchester City midfielder James Milner has underlined the importance of beating Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League this week. After two games in the competition, City have gained just one point as they could only draw with Napoli in the opener last month. Roberto Mancini's side then lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich at the end of September and face an uphill climb to qualify for the next stage. Their Spanish opponents have an even worse record in the Champions League, with two defeats in their opening two games and have only won once in the Primera Liga after seven games. Manchester City, however, are flying in the Premier League and Saturday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa has put them at the top of the table due to Manchester United's draw with Liverpool. Villarreal arrive at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening and Milner, who scored against his former club on Saturday, believes his side need to gather three points from the clash.

Big games

He said: "Every game we play we want to win. They're big games but it won't change our philosophy. "We'll go and try and win. We've had a slow start in the Champions League but hopefully we'll pick up and put in a performance that we know we can. "It's a tough group, and obviously our first taste of Champions League football together, but we know we can improve on our Champions League performances so far. "A win is vitally important and I'm sure we can get it."
