VVV Venlo boasted their survival chances as they beat RKC Waalwijk 4-1, while Den Haag and Heracles Almelo also mustered victories.
The win still leaves Venlo in the bottom three of the Eredivisie but it leaves them just three points shy of the safety mark.
Excelsior remain bottom of the league and are still searching for their first elusive win of the campaign, while Almelo closing in on the European positions.
Maya Yoshida and Yannick Wildschut put Venlo 2-0 up by the interval. But Robert Braber scored after 65 minutes to reduce the arrears for Waalwijk.
But Uche Nwofor limbered from the bench to score the third goal before Bryan Linssen confirmed the win.
Goals from Everton Ramos Da Silva and Willie Overtoom in each half gave Heracles victory over bottom place Excelsior.
Elsewhere, John Verhoek scored the only goal after 25 minutes of the game as Den Haag beat NEC.
Meanwhile, Heerenveen were in excellent form against Utrecht as they blew them away 4-1.
Sven Kums set them on their way with an early goal but they had to wait until the hour mark for Bas Dost to get the second.
Filip Djuricic added the third before Rodney Sneijder grabbed a consolation. Oussama Assaidi ended the scoring by grabbing the fourth.
