Newport County confirm that midfielder is on trial at Selhurst Park

Conference team Newport County have confirmed that midfielder Danny Rose is training with Championship side Crystal Palace. The 23-year-old will spend the week on trial with Dougie Freedman's squad at Selhurst Park but will return to Newport in time to play in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round encounter with Braintree on Saturday. County boss Justin Edinburgh wants the former Manchester United reserve captain to stay but he knows he has the potential to move on. "We don't want to lose Danny but he's got aspirations to play in the Football League and we've had a good chat," Edinburgh told the South Wales Argus. "I've told him he's got to stay focused and that will take care of it. I don't think speculation is helpful - if he continues to play like he is at the moment it will happen for him. "But it's got to be right for him and for the club. If it is then unfortunately he'll move on because he's got the quality."
