Roberto Mancini saw Adam Johnson help Manchester City past Wolves on Wednesday, but believes the winger can get even better.
The England international was instrumental in helping City recover from falling a goal behind at Molineux to pick up a 5-2 win and a place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.
He scored one and made two more during a four-minute spell towards the end of the first half that saw the Blues turn the tie on its head.
Mancini was pleased to see Johnson offer the perfect response to being left out of Sunday's 6-1 mauling of arch-rivals Manchester United, but feels there is still more to come from the 24-year-old.
"He played well, but I think Adam can do more," he told Sky Sports.
"He has everything to be one of the best wingers. I liked his performance this evening but I think he can do better.
"One player should never think that if I do this it is enough. Adam has everything, he is one of the best wingers in England and in Europe and I think he can improve."
Mancini is looking for City to compete for multiple honours this season and was pleased to see them take another positive step towards major silverware in midweek.
He said: "I am very happy because of everything. It was not easy.
"Wolves at home are a difficult team and after they scored the first goal it was difficult, but after that we started to play well and we scored three goals in 10 minutes. It was good.
"When we started the game we were too deep. After they scored we changed and we pushed them very high, it was different."
