AC Milan have confirmed Antonio Cassano has undergone successful heart surgery.
The Italy international had a procedure in Milan's Polinclinico hospital on Friday morning to repair an atrial spetal defect.
The 29-year-old was admitted to hospital last Saturday shortly after his team's 3-2 triumph at Roma after experiencing ischemic cerebral damage similar to a stroke.
Tests confirmed Cassano had a heart defect that needed treatment but he is expected to make a full, relatively quick, recovery and return to action in the new year.
A club statement read: "The procedure on Antonio Cassano's patent foramen ovale finished at 8.35 am and all has gone well."
