American striker Jozy Altidore believes he is beginning to understand his role at AZ Alkmaar after a slow start to life at the Dutch club.
The 21-year-old has struggled to find his feet with the Eredivisie leaders since arriving from Villarreal in the summer, failing to score in his last eight league games.
USA international Altidore admits he has struggled to adapt to AZ's style, but feels he is starting to settle in.
"I'm beginning to understand my role," he told AZ's official website.
"I have to hold the ball and link up with guys like Brett Holman, Adam Maher and Rasmus Elm.
"I'm not used to playing football this way. I was always the opportunist striker.
"The trainers in Alkmaar have been working with me. I feel that at AZ I am going to become a complete striker."
AZ currently sit six points clear at the top of the league table and Altidore has been impressed by the side's collective performances so far this season.
"The team is in spectacular form at this moment," he added.
"We play the football that as a player you want to see. There is much movement in the field and in midfield we have plenty of creativity."
