Werder Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs has revealed that he may not sign a new contract with the club at the end of the season.
The 54-year-old has been with the German side since 1999 and has worked along with coach Thomas Schaaf during this period.
However, the duo's current contracts are set to run out next summer and Allofs has hinted that he is pondering on a future away from the Bremen outfit.
"The thing is, you have always got to ask yourself and consider whether you are still the right man for the job," Allofs told
Sport1 television. "A new contract is not a formality for me."
Allofs, though, believes that Schaaf, 50, will extend his deal when it expires at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
"There are no signs of wear and tear on him," he said. "Thomas Schaaf is still the right coach for this club."
Allofs further stated that Torsten Frings will become part of the Werder coaching staff when his playing tenure with MLS side Toronto FC runs out in just over a year.
"It is 99 per cent certain that Torsten Frings will come and work at Bremen after his time with Toronto," he said.
"He will have a coaching career, just like Dieter Eilts, Thomas Schaaf and others have done here."
Big squad
Allofs also added in
Kreiszeitung Syke that Werder could be tempted to cash in on players during January whose contracts are due to end in the summer.
"We have a big squad," he explained. "If unhappy players are among the group, then something is going to happen.
"If a player has just six months left on his existing deal and if that player is keen on a change of clubs, then a transfer would definitely be an option for us."
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga club have handed 17-year-old full-back Cimo-Patric Rocker his first professional contract, tying him down until June 2014.
