Ferguson admits summer signing has been a 'disappointment'

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson admits that Nicky Ajose has been a 'disappointment' since joining the club from Manchester United. Ajose signed a four-year contract at London Road in the summer, but picked up an injury against Crystal Palace on his debut for Posh. He has not featured for Ferguson's side since returning to fitness and was sent out on loan to Scunthorpe United in September. The striker's move to Glanford Park saw Ajose reunited with Alan Knill, who he played under while on loan at Bury last season, but he has yet to score for the Iron. The 20-year-old is due to stay at Scunthorpe until January and Ferguson admits he will have to reassess Ajose's future upon his return to Peterborough. "Nicky was obviously unfortunate to get injured in his first game and others have impressed in his absence," Ferguson told the Evening Telegraph. "We sent him out on loan to get games and that move has been extended until January, but I'd be lying if I said he hadn't been a disappointment. "He is a player we invested a lot of money in who has a lengthy contract, so we'll have another look at it in January."
