Allen angling for Rodgers move

Manager Martin Allen has not ruled out a move to bring former striker Luke Rodgers back to Notts County on loan.

Rodgers has returned to England until January after enjoying a hugely successful first season in Major League Soccer with New York Red Bulls. The 29-year-old could be open to re-joining Notts on a short-term deal during the MLS close season - similar to when David Beckham linked up with AC Milan in 2009 and 2010. "I believe he is back in the country. I like Luke. I haven't spoken to him. We'll see," Allen told the Nottingham Post. Rodgers scored 13 goals for the Magpies when they won the League Two title in 2010. He helped fire the Red Bulls to the play-offs with nine goals and he netted his 10th in the recent defeat against Beckham's LA Galaxy. Allen added: "It is only really worth paying out money for a player if they are going to get into our starting XI, and our team is playing well. Who can I drop from that team? If we are going to get somebody in it will be expensive because they have got to be coming in now to improve an already strong team."
